Transportation Tips
Inquire and Understand the Terms of the Cancellation Policy.
Cancellation policies vary significantly among competing ground transportation companies.
Some deposits may be non-refundable. Review the operators contract to determine
how much time is required to cancel the reservation in order to avoid a cancellation
charge. In some cases, the provider may require full payment including a
mandatory gratuity to the driver when cancelling your reservation.
Comparing Limousine Rates.
Limousine services are advertised as either hourly or as a flat rate. Limousine
operators may advertise a discounted fixed rate for airport transportation
services but in some cases may require specific "add-on" fees. These extra
charges may include a fuel surcharge, driver wait-time, airport fees and a
mandatory gratuity to the driver of 15 to 20% of the total fare. When
comparing limousine rates among different companies do not just rely on the
base rate. In many cases the true rate may be substantially greater than the
advertised base rate.
Does the Ground Transportation Company Operate in a Transparent Manner?
Based on research conducted by Transportation Reviews (TR), the majority of ground
transportation companies fail to communicate important company information including
a legal business name, permit information, rates, cancellation policy, vehicle fleet
pictures and a business address on their company website. TR has developed a
proprietary rating system called the
GroundCar Score™
which identifies the company's level of transparency. Higher rated companies
provide answers to many common questions of consumers when reserving ground
transportation services.
Transportation Coupons
Some operators including SuperShuttle, a national provider of airport shuttle service,
advertise various shuttle discounts. Refer to our
Super Shuttle Discount Code
page for the best coupons. All Super Shuttle group discount codes are tested by our
editor on a regular basis.
Unauthorized Use or False Conveyance of Membership Affiliation.
Some operators may display a service mark(s) on their
website including the Better Business Bureau logo without authorization. The BBB®
requires companies to link back to their official website in order to confirm the
company's status with their organization.
Free Airport Hotel Transportation.
Many hotels in close proximity to major U.S. commercial
airports offer complimentary
hotel shuttle
service to and from the airport. The hours of operation may vary among the competing hotels.
Website Displays Pictures of Many Vehicles.
Some operators display photographs of vehicles on their
company website that they do not own or operate. Some of these companies may
broker out the reservation without communicating this information to the customer.
How Relevant are Testimonials on Operator Websites?
Some operators display testimonials or written statements
of recommendations by their customers on their company website. Based on our research,
many operators abuse this marketing practice and create fictitious testimonials.
TR recommends not to base your purchase decision on these consumer statements.
